#18 amuse me

For the past two months, I have been working in a group on a marketing project for Volt Magazine. We were asked to come up with a concept for their anniversary issue, whether that be a theme, a film, a pop-up shop or a launch event - there weren't really any limits, it just had to be achievable.

As a group, we came up with the idea of a secret cinema which would screen a film based on muses, under the title of 'Amuse Me'. We finally got down to making the film on Wednesday, which went really well. So here are a few photos from the day, courtesy of Bel.

#17 my favourite illustrators

Every now and again, I begin to feel really uninspired, uncreative and stuck in a rut; but then I look at some of my favourite fashion illustrators and remember why I love fashion.

The first one is obvious and I'm sure a lot of you love his work as well; David Downton. I have adored his work ever since I bought one of the infamous illustrated Marks & Sparks canvas bags with people such as Twiggy, Erin O'Connor and Lily Cole on the front (obviously mine was the Twiggy one). His work is just so elegant, simple and beautiful - I could look at it all day.

  

The second illustrator that really influences me is Garance Doré. The French artist who is currently Scott Schuman's (The Sartorialist's) beau, is an extremely talented woman and creates some beautifully simplistic work. Here are a few of my favourites...

The last one is Loulou Androlia of 'Loulou Loves You'; her illustrations are commissioned by a variety of people and the outcomes are incredible. Her style is more detailed than the other two illustrators and I love the colours she uses. Have a look at the ones I adore.

If, like me, you are feeling uninspired, I would definitely recommend having a look at 'Amelia's Compendium of Fashion Illustration'; it really is a lovely book to get you out of that rut.

Today, the Marni at H&M collection graced selected stores and the website. The extended version of the commercial which is directed by Sofia Coppola, is absolutely amazing so have a look...

#15 style icon of the week

I don't know what my obsession is with fictional characters and their costume designers, but they are the people that influence me the most. In all of my favourite films, I have a favourite character and a favourite outfit of theirs. Maybe it's a sign of what I should be when I grow up.

Last time it was Cher Horowitz, now this week amongst all the hype and gossip surrounding the new SATC prequel 'The Carrie Diaries', I felt it was only right to remember the original Carrie. So say hello to this week's style icon, Carrie Bradshaw.

She is possibly one of the most incredible women ever; a perfect creation of a character by Candace Bushnell. But the woman who brought Carrie to life on the screen was Patricia Field and her amazing costume choices. Mixing designer with more designer, Field has been nominated for five Emmy awards for her work on Sex and the City. And here's why...

#14 fred butler aw12

If you know me, you will know that my favourite colour is mint green, among many other pastel colours. You will also know that I love origami (okay, well I didn't but I do now). You will therefore know that my favourite womenswear presentation from LFW was Fred Butler AW12. 

A combination of candy coloured knitted leotards, coordinating hair, lots of origami and a whole lot of crazy, it really was one of the best collections of the week. The models pranced down the catwalk to a performance from Charli XCX while exhibiting what can only be described as modern artwork. 

I will be waiting in anticipation for her next collection; it's sure to be incredible.

#13 exhausting the image

I don't usually post my own work on this blog, apart from my Meadham Kirchhoff creation, so I have decided to show a few of my favourite pieces from my most recent imaging project - 'Exhausting the Image'. 

I was given an anonymous image from an unknown source which I had to alter using different techniques and methods and extending my technical abilities, producing a series of nineteen further images. Each image had to inform the next image in the series and this was my starting point. 

I used a variety of different process, such as digital techniques, photocopying, drawing, collage and monoprinting to produce the series of images. Here are a few of my favourites. 

I didn't think I would but in actual fact I really loved this project. Next up is typography...
